Island Life
It’s summertime – are you dreaming of island life?! No, not a tropical island, but your home kitchen island! A well-designed kitchen island offers functionality and flair to your space while enhancing the overall aesthetics of your home! Today, we’re highlighting a few items that we have added to our kitchen islands that provide an additional dose of sleekness and efficiency!
Our first guest on the island: an air switch! There’s nothing more convenient than having your disposal functional at the touch of your fingertips! The airswitch is a streamlined alternative to a traditional wall or undermount switch for a disposal, but is located conveniently next to your sink. We love matching its finishes to our faucets to complete a cohesive look.
One of our favorite island features: a trash pullout! Keeping your trash in a sophisticated enclosure versus a traditional bin provides a way to hide debris and reduce odors. Also, having it located in a polished cabinet pullout close to your sink is much more convenient for cooking and household maintenance.
Another item we recommend adding to your kitchen island for aesthetic design: a microwave drawer! Instead of having your bulky microwave take up space on your countertops or reducing perimeter cabinet space, integrating it within your kitchen island design tucks it away while still making it convenient to use.
Something that we’ve seen added into some of our homes is additional storage cabinets with doors on the backside of your island! This supplementary space is great for putting away heavy dishes that you don’t often use, such as chafing dishes or holiday plates.
A feature we often recommend adding to enhance your island is a soap dispenser! Adding a soap dispenser is the perfect way to elevate ordinary spaces in your home. Say goodbye to miscellaneous soap bottles taking up room on your island and hello to a gorgeous dispenser for hand and dish soap!
Additional fun ideas that we’ve added to kitchen islands with sinks are a glass rinser, a filtered water system, and an insta hot. A glass rinser is an effective way to quickly clean your glasses – perfect for those who enjoy a homemade cocktail or are often cleaning out water bottles from sports! We personally have an instahot and filtered water system in the kitchen islands in our Design Center and Main Office. For our tea lovers in the building, the instahot is their best friend! This feature is also perfect for those needing instant hot water in cooking and cleaning. The filtered water system offers an appealing alternative to standard tap water while reducing the need for bottled water!
Adding more to the cozy and whimsical vibes your kitchen island has to offer, consider adding a decorative waterfall of countertop material on either side! This is ideal for creating an elevated and seamless look in this everyday space! Plus, it helps to break up some of the cabinetry and offers great contrast to your interior design palette.
Then, put your best foot forward with custom legwork for your island’s posts or decorative feet! Posts and feet can come in a variety of sizes, designs, and textures, such as a reeded, rounded, or tapered look. Let your imagination run wild with this element!
