Preparing for Your Design Appointment
The Magnolia Homes Design Team takes pride in helping each and every one of our homeowners create the dream home they’ve always desired! In order to make the process as enjoyable as possible, you’ll want to prepare for your design appointments! Our dedicated home specialist, Mac Grannan, gives her feedback on what to consider when preparing for this exciting time!
Before meeting with our homeowners, we recommend they take a tour of each of our communities to get a feel for what they would like their home’s exterior to look like. This includes finding inspiration for a desired shutter style, siding color, brick pattern, and more! It is important to keep in mind that no two homes are alike, so we aim to have variation in the exterior design palette as well! For example, we would not want to build two homes next to each other that both have painted brick, blue shutters, and a brown roof. We would recommend a variation of that where some of those components are different!
When deciding on the exterior of your home, we understand how crucial it is to find elements that are cohesive and timeless. It is much harder to make changes to the outside of your home later, so ensuring you have a classic and well-thought palette is imperative! Curb appeal is everything. Plus, we want to make sure you are happy for years to come!
The next thing we work on in our appointments is, of course, the interior! Setting the tone with your interior design palette will greatly impact how the entire inside of your home will look and feel. Some things to think about are if you lean towards a more modern or traditional look–maybe it’s a mix? Do you prefer warm or cool tones? All of these elements matter, and finding the perfect combination of paint, hardwood, and trim color is essential for creating a harmonious living space! Don’t forget about your other textiles, such as countertops, stone, tile, glass, and more!
What are those things you can’t live without? You might have already decided on these items in your contract, but you might not think of a key feature until it is time to meet with the design team. That’s okay! We are here to help you pick out all the bells and whistles! If you love to cook, maybe a pot filler is non-negotiable to you! For those that want to create a spa-like oasis of their own, an annexed shower system with a rain can and multiple sprayers might be on the list! From luxury items to functional living, the possibilities are endless when it comes to design, so having an idea of what you want in your home to improve your quality of life and dream home’s appeal is essential!
If you’re stuck or feeling overwhelmed, the Magnolia Homes photo gallery and our social media platforms are great resources for finding inspiration! Scrolling through our past home projects might give you the creative spark you were looking for, and you can trust that what we select for our available inventory homes is tried and true! For further inspiration, Pinterest is great for unique designs in tile, custom millwork, and color schemes, and that’s just scratching the surface! Try creating a board for your future home to bring to your appointment. It makes for the perfect digital vignette of your home, and we will do our best to replicate anything you show us!
The tile selection process is where a lot of our homeowners tend to invest in more luxurious options. This might include choosing a larger, polished tile for the primary bathroom, or maybe a fun backsplash in the kitchen or scullery! There’s so much you can do with tile! With all the shapes, finishes, and sizes, you can really get creative here. Do you dream of a mosaic waterfall in your shower? How about a tiled family room fireplace? Knowing this in advance can help you determine your budget and decide on the specific spaces you want to tile!
You’ve selected your paint, tile, and countertops, but what about plumbing fixtures?! Whether you have your heart set on matte black faucets or you like mixing metals, knowing your preferred plumbing finish can help you explore other avenues in the design process with ease. Additionally, reviewing our design guide will help give you an idea in advance of what finishes and styles are included. Lastly, it might be important to you for your faucets to match your cabinet hardware and light fixtures, so be sure to take that into consideration when you have your design appointment. There are plenty of options to choose from, and the design team will not steer you wrong
